Basin Cup hosts, Al-Merreikh went top of group ‘A’ after winning 4-2
against neighbours Malakia FC from South Sudan. Al-Merreikh led the
first half 3-0 with goals coming from Pascal Wawa 6’, Kor Traore 26’ and Tia Togbi Olivier 42’.
Germany
Coach Otto Martin later made three substitutions at the beginning of the
second half that nearly cost him a win as Malakia took advantage
scoring two goals through John William 72’ and Thomas Jacob 80’.
Al-Merreikh
however stretched the margin to four when Sadjo Haman netted in the two
minutes of added time. Merreikh now have 7 points level with Victoria
University but up with one goal difference.
Victoria University sends Police home
Zanzibar
representatives-Police FC lost their last group stage match against
Victoria University 3-0 to exit themselves from the tournament with 9
goals conceded against none. They lost their first two matches on the
same margin against Malakia and Al-Merreikh. Victoria finished second as
Malakia took the 3rd position to storm the quarters. [Scorers: Mutyaba Muzamir 39’, Kibirige Jackson 45’ & 48’]
Defence, Al-Shandy battle for top slot
After two
days of rest at Shandi stadium, hosts Al-Shandi FC returns to action
against Ethiopia’s army side Defence FC in a battle that will decide the
winners of Group ‘C’.
Both clubs have beaten Djibouti’s Dkhill 2-1 and are tying at same points, goals scored and conceded.
If the two
sides draw tonight, the organizing committee will use the fair play rule
to determine the group winner. Both clubs shift to Khartoum after their
match to prepare for the quarters. Meanwhile Dkhill is already on their
way back home.

Somali FIFA
youthful referee Hassan Mohamed is destined to handle the AFC
Leopard-Academie Tchite game with Farhan Bogoreh [Djibouti] and Okello
Lee [Uganda] as his assistants. Ethiopia’s Tadesse Belay is the stand-by
referee.
The first
game of the day will have Badradin Abdallah [Sudan] in the center,
Mohammad Abdallah [Sudan] and odhiambo oliver [Kenya] as the assistants.
